Episode 1: Fashion Tea & Getting Started with Savonne Anderson of Aya Paper Co
In the first ever episode of the StylingSOUL podcast, I sat down with SaVonne Anderson of Aya Paper Co to talk about getting started. Before we dive deep into the soul conversation, we also serve up some light industry tea covering fashion industry news, including Beyonce's Black is King styled by Zerina Akers, COVID-19's affect on retail brands, and big wins from Anifa Mvuemba of Hanifo Co and Jason Rembert's new resort collection, Aliette.
ON GETTING STARTED
I want you to challenge yourself to stop window shopping on the life that you were called to create. You scroll on social media and you see people that are doing some of the things that you wish to do. Whether that is professionally, creatively, or with family life, and we can get so caught up in watching others that we lose track of the beauty that exists exactly where WE uniquely are in life. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being inspired, but still, there comes a point where we must stop observing and start doing. We have to stop allowing fear and comparison to keep us in the planning and idea stages. There are people out there ready to receive what you have to offer, so what is stopping you? You might say, “I’m not afraid, I’m just procrastinating!” but procrastination is most often rooted in fear. If you are procrastinating on something that would ultimately bring you joy and propel your life forward in a way that benefits you, then maybe you have to ask yourself where your fear lies.
